Initial draft. This document is a working draft prepared by Beltren Inc. and must be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before publication or reliance.
This Privacy Policy explains how Beltren Inc. ("Beltren," "we," "us") collects, uses, protects, and shares information when you use the Beltren platform, our websites, and related services (together, the "Services"). Beltren is a private community for verified members of university ecosystems; keeping it private is the point, and this policy is written to be read.
Account information. When you join the waitlist or create an account, we collect your name, email address, your relationship to a university community (such as student, alumnus or alumna, faculty, or staff), and, where relevant, a graduation year or department.
Verification data. To confirm eligibility we may process your institutional email address, eligibility confirmations, the results of an identity check, and a device-linked credential. Verification documents are used to confirm eligibility, are never shown to other members, and are retained only as long as needed for that purpose. We do not ask for, collect, or store institutional passwords.
Profile information. Information you choose to add to your profile, such as a photo, fields of study, interests, groups, and career details. You control the visibility of profile fields within the community.
Communications and content. Posts, messages, listings, event RSVPs, reports you file, and messages you send to our team. Private messages are private to their participants; we access them only as needed to operate the Services, investigate reports, or meet legal obligations.
Device and usage information. Device type, operating system, app version, IP address, log data, and how you interact with the Services, collected to keep accounts secure and the product working.
We use information to operate and improve the Services: verifying membership, providing the feed, groups, messaging, events, and marketplace features, securing accounts, preventing fraud and abuse, responding to reports and support requests, sending service communications you have opted into, and meeting legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use the content of your private messages for advertising.
Within the Services, your profile and posts are visible according to your settings, to verified members only by default. Outside the Services, we share information with service providers who help us run Beltren (such as hosting, identity verification, and email delivery) under contracts limiting their use of it; when required by law or to protect the safety of members and the public; and in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply until changed. We do not share member information with universities or employers except at your direction or as required by law.
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Services are used so we can improve them. Analytics are configured to serve product decisions, not ad targeting. Your browser settings let you limit or delete cookies; some features may not work without them.
We protect information with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including encryption in transit, device-linked sign-in credentials, and limited, logged staff access to member data. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not promise otherwise; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
You can review and update profile information and visibility settings at any time, control who can message you, unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in each message, and request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting eduard@beltren.org or using in-product tools. Deleting your account removes your profile and content visibility immediately and begins deletion on the schedule in Section 7.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here: account data for the life of the account, verification records only as long as needed to establish and maintain eligibility, and log data for a limited period for security. After account deletion we delete or de-identify personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or fraud prevention.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (CCPA/CPRA) gives you rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, to limit certain uses, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. The categories we collect are described in Section 1: identifiers, professional and educational information, communications and content you provide, and device and usage information. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your rights, contact eduard@beltren.org; we will verify your request and respond within the time required by law. You may use an authorized agent as permitted by the statute.
The Services are designed for members of university communities and are not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old, and old enough to consent to this policy under the laws of your place of residence, to use the Services. If we learn we have collected personal information from someone under that age, we will delete it.
When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Services or by email before they take effect and update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
